Halloween is just around the corner, and here in the Philippines, we see more and more families getting into the Halloween festivities. Just before we troop to the cemeteries in time for All Souls’ Day on November 1, we take our kids trick-or-treating as well. And for this year’s costume inspiration, you might want to check out the past few years’ top Halloween costumes through this nifty little infographic:
Should be interesting to know what the most popular Halloween costumes are for 2012. Are your kids excited for Halloween this year?
Halloween in the Philippines
While Halloween by itself is not a traditional Filipino holiday, more and more Pinoy families have been getting into the regular Halloween traditions: trick-or-treating and busting out Halloween costumes. It’s fun, it makes for great pictures, and it’s a great opportunity for parents to spend time with their kids.
Halloween happens right before All Saints’ Day (November 1), and All Souls’ Day (November 2). Filipinos observe these days– Todos Los Santos, or Undas– by trooping to the cemeteries and visiting deceased loved ones. It’s a fairly festive family affair, as people go home to their respective provinces, and observe the holidays with family– like a reunion of sorts.
In more urbanized areas, however, you’ll see Trick-or-Treating and Halloween parties. More subdivisions, condo residences, and even offices practice the more Western Halloween traditions. So if some kids knock on your door trick-or-treating, be nice and hand over some candy.
